Terms of Service
The rules for using Shirewell, written to be read.
Last updated: November 4, 2026
1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Shirewell (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using Shirewell, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your information. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Shirewell.
2. Who can use Shirewell
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you’re under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on your behalf. Each account is for one person, and the details you give us must be accurate.
3. Your account
You’re responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password, sign out everywhere from Account settings, and send us a message.
4. Households
- The person who creates a household owns it. Owners can invite and remove members, and the household follows the owner’s plan and its limits.
- Everyone in a household can see and change what’s in it, so only invite people you trust with your home’s information.
- Only invite people who would expect to hear from you. Invitations are sent by email on your behalf.
- If you leave a household or delete your account, what you added stays with the household so its history stays complete.
5. Your content
You own what you put into Shirewell: tasks, comments, addresses and everything else. You give us permission to store, copy, process and display it only as needed to run Shirewell for you and your households. You’re responsible for your content and for having the right to share it.
6. Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- break the law, or use Shirewell to harass, threaten or harm anyone;
- send spam or unwanted invitations;
- try to get into accounts or households that aren’t yours, or probe, scan or test our systems’ security without permission;
- disrupt or overload the service, or access it with automated tools other than in the normal way a browser does;
- get around plan limits or other restrictions; or
- copy, resell or reverse engineer Shirewell.
7. Plans and billing
Shirewell has a Free plan and paid plans, described on our pricing page. Billing isn’t live yet: paid plans are free for now and we don’t ask for a card. Before we ever charge, we’ll tell you the price and terms and ask you to choose whether to continue on a paid plan.
Our paid plans, Family and Extended, aren’t open yet. Choosing one adds you to its waitlist, and your account stays on Free until it opens; joining a waitlist costs nothing and you can leave it at any time. While you’re on a waitlist, Free’s limits on recurring tasks and chore rotations don’t apply, you can have as many households and people as the plan you’re waiting for allows (one household of up to 6 people for Family, any number of both for Extended), and you can use household analytics, which is in beta and may change. If you leave, analytics closes again, and what you’ve already set up keeps going (no household or person is removed), but new households, people, recurring tasks and rotations count toward Free’s limits again; when the plan opens, we’ll tell you how this changes before it does. To move to a smaller plan, your households first need to fit within its limits. We may change plans, prices and limits, and we’ll give you notice before a change affects you.
8. Features marked “Coming soon”
Features marked “Coming soon” aren’t available yet. We describe them so you know what we’re working on, but they may change, arrive later than planned, or not arrive at all.
9. Suggestions aren’t professional advice
Maintenance suggestions, schedules and other information in Shirewell are general guidance, not professional advice. Follow manufacturers’ instructions and local codes, and use a qualified, licensed professional for work such as electrical, gas, structural or roofing jobs. If you hire a professional, including once quote requests are available, your agreement is with them, and we aren’t responsible for their work.
Suggestions are based on what you tell us and on common guidance, so they may be incomplete or not right for your home, climate or equipment, and some intervals may be longer or shorter than a manufacturer recommends. Shirewell doesn’t list everything your home needs. You stay responsible for its upkeep (or your landlord, where your lease says so), including deciding what needs doing and when, and any changes you make to suggested schedules.
10. Changes to Shirewell
Shirewell is in early access and changes often. We may add, change or remove features, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. We’ll give reasonable notice before removing anything you rely on, where we can.
11. Ending your use
You can stop using Shirewell and delete your account at any time in Account settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people or the service at risk. Where it’s reasonable, we’ll tell you why first and give you a chance to fix it.
12. Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Shirewell reliable, but it’s provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond those in these terms, including that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that reminders will always arrive on time. Don’t rely on Shirewell alone for anything safety-critical, such as replacing smoke alarm batteries.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, such as lost data, lost profits or damage to property, arising from your use of Shirewell, including from tasks or reminders that were missed, late, scheduled incorrectly or never suggested. Our total liability for any claim relating to Shirewell is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer under the law where you live.
14. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is material, we’ll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Shirewell after that, you accept the new terms.
